Jalen Brunson came through in a big way for the New York Knicks in Game 5 of the NBA Finals, scoring a series-high 45 points as he closed out the San Antonio Spurs with a 94-90 final score.

Brunson averaged 32.6 points per game in the championship series, enough to secure him Finals MVP honors.

The Knicks were able to close out the series on the road fresh off an emotional Game 4 victory at Madison Square Garden. New York mounted the largest comeback in NBA Finals, erasing a 29-point Spurs lead to notch a 107-106 final score and take a 3-1 lead in the series.

Knicks legend Carmelo Anthony said he delivered a message to Brunson before Game 5.

“My message to JB was, Game 5, put the pedal to the metal, but also take their first punch," Anthony said. "If you take that first punch, it’s your time. You going to take over.

"Because if you watching it, you can see it. And that Game 4 just took a lot out of the Spurs.”
