Kansas City Chiefs' two-time NFL MVP and three-time Super Bowl-winning quarterback Patrick Mahomes has made a habit out of authoring all-time performances in Arrowhead Stadium over the past eight years.
Mahomes experienced what it feels like to watch a GOAT hold Arrowhead in the palm of his hand when he and his wife, Brittany, attended Argentina and Algeria's opening World Cup match in Kansas City on Tuesday night — and witnessed Lionel Messi make history.
Argentina opened its World Cup title defense with a 3-0 win over Algeria, and all three goals came off Messi's magical boot for his first-ever World Cup hattrick.
Messi, 38, ripped his first goal from outside the box in the 17th minute. Shortly after Messi knocked in his second goal in the 60th minute, Mahomes tweeted out the goat emoji. That was outdated within 30 minutes, as Messi scored his third goal in the 76th minute.
At that point, Mahomes amended his previously post: "🐐🐐🐐"

Former Germany star Miroslav Klose said days ago that he expected his all-time World Cup goals record to "be broken in this tournament," but he probably didn't expect Messi to tie him in his first game of the 2026 FIFA men's World Cup.
With his hattrick, Messi nudged his all-time World Cup goals total to 16, tying Klose and, barring injury or unforeseen disaster, guaranteeing that he will become the all-time leading World Cup scorer in the coming weeks. Or, more likely, days.
Messi's next chance to break the record will come when Argentina meets Austria at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, on Monday, June 22.
Mahomes could leave Arrowhead taking solace in the fact he is a back-to-back Super Bowl champion, and winning back-to-back World Cup titles is the one feat Messi hasn't accomplished, as detailed by ESPN. But that may soon fall, too. The Argentines are vying to become the first men's World Cup repeat champions since Brazil in 1958 and 1962.
