The Chicago Fire currently sit in third behind Nashville SC and Inter Miami CF in the Eastern Conference of Major League Soccer, and their goal differential is a solid +11.

The Fire, a franchise that has not hoisted the MLS Cup since 1998, want more.

More specifically, they want Robert Lewandowski.

"We have a lot going on. We're trying to recruit world class players," Gregg Berhalter, the Fire's director of football and head coach, told Kay Adams earlier this week. "There's no player that's scored more goals in the last 15 years in the top five leagues than Robert Lewandowski. An absolute legend. We think it would be a great signing not only for the Chicago Fire, but for the league to have a player of that caliber. We see him right up there with [Lionel] Messi in terms of ability."

It isn't just a pipe dream, either.

Robert Lewandowski of FC Barcelona

Berhalter disclosed Saturday morning that Lewandowski, 37, was en route to "touring the training ground" while appearing on FanDuel's "Coaches' Corner."

According to The Athletic's Tom Bogert and Paul Tenorio, Lewandowski will be in Chicago all weekend. "The Poland legend is considering proposals from Chicago as well as the Saudi Pro League and is expected to make a decision soon," they wrote.

Lewandowskibid farewell to Barcelona last month and will depart the iconic club having won three LaLiga titles over the past four years. He previously starred at Bayern Munich in the German Bundesliga from 2014 to 2022.
