This week’s new movies on VOD include the controversial biopic Michael, about the rise of pop star Michael Jackson, the video game inspired Mortal Kombat II, and Let’s Love, a largely improvised dramedy starring Martin Freeman and Malin Ackerman.

In Let’s Love, Freeman stars as the screenwriter of a successful rom-com that’s celebrating it’s 10 anniversary. To commemorate, he and the film’s director (Ackerman) and cast (Josh Hutcherson and Jess Weixler) are invited to a fan convention and start to noodle on the idea of developing a sequel, stirring up old memories and new insecurities. Dermot Mulroney also appears in the film which was directed by Jamie Adams.

These are just a few of the films that are available to watch on Amazon Prime Video, iTunes, YouTube, and through your cable service this week. Check out what movies are available to buy or rent on demand now.

Mortal Kombat II

Mortal Kombat II, the sequel to the 2021 reboot of the Mortal Kombat film franchise arrived to VOD this week. The film, which enjoyed a brief theatrical run before landing on digital, is another installment in the video-game-inspired franchise and this own follows two lead fighters, the profane and wisecracking Johnny Cage (Karl Urban), a faded martial-arts star recruited for this good-versus-evil tournament; and the tough Princess Kitana (Adeline Rudolph), who is working undercover to defeat the evil emperor who conquered her realm. The film combines action and slapstick – be warned, our reviewer didn’t love it, but it made $80 million at the box office so it’s got to be someone’s bag, right?

Michael

Michael is the 2026 biopic of Michael Jackson’s life starring Jackson’s own nephew, Jaafar Jackson, and serves as an uncomfortable attempt at reputation rehab for the pop star. The film somewhat infamously removed references to Jackson’s legal issues and abuse allegations, and instead serves as a story about the singer’s life with the Jackson 5 and his evolution into the King of Pop.
