New York Giants running back Cam Skattebo raced onto the scene quickly as a rookie, making highlight reels of him bowling over defenders.

Skattebo quickly became a star for the Giants, running 98 yards and three touchdowns in the Giants' 34-17 win over the Philadelphia Eagles on "Thursday Night Football" in Week 6. The 2025 fourth-round pick started in five games and appeared in eight, but his season was cut short when he suffered a dislocated ankle injury against the Eagles in Week 8.

Given the toll and abuse running backs face in the league, it was fair to wonder if Skattebo would change his football philosophy of seeking contact to help with his longevity during the regular season and career.

That didn't enter Skattebo's mind.

During an appearance on NFL Media's "The Insiders" on Wednesday, Skattebo said he plans to keep the playing style that made him a phenomenon during his college days at Arizona State.

"It ain't gonna change who I am," he said. "I had an injury, you know, it is what it is. I've still got plenty of football left, plenty of life left, I'm not going to let this little ankle thing bother me. I'm going to get back (to) running people over like you see on the videos. It's going to be normal Cam Skattebo from here on out."

What makes Skattebo unique is his ability to use a five-foot-nine, 220-pound frame as a hammer. It's understandable he'd want to continue to play to the better part of his skillset in the league. At the same time, seeking contact from NFL defenders increases the chances he'll miss games due to injury, which isn't ideal for the Giants.

Skattebo said he's received support from new head coach John Harbaugh and offensive coordinator Matt Nagy this offseason.

"Coach Harbaugh and Nagy, I've felt nothing but support and love from them," Skattebo said. "They're always on me about getting back, and they're starting to see where I'm at in my process and they're starting to trust it. They've been really good to me. I trust both of those two, as (well) as everybody else on the staff.

"It's been nothing but joy and happiness for me, just starting to fall back in love with the game after an injury for sure."

Skattebo plans to play in the Giants' regular season opener at home against the Dallas Cowboys on Sept. 13. But he has yet to be a full participant at practice this spring.
