Dr. Mehmet Oz said Tuesday that President Donald Trump is in “spectacular” health, citing medical records that show the nearly 80-year-old has “excellent” physical condition.
The president went to Walter Reed Medical Center for the fourth known checkup of his second term last week.
Taking questions in the White House briefing room, Oz also brushed off a question about the president's return trips for checkups.
“I think he likes the results,” Oz responded. “He aces the test every single day, and I do actually believe that he is curious to make sure everything is going in the right direction.”
Oz also described the frequent exams as a reflection of Trump’s “very meticulous” approach, saying he “wants to know all the numbers” and stay on top of them.
Oz, the administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and a physician, told reporters at the White House that Trump’s energy and mental sharpness reflect his overall health.
“That amount of energy and that amount of mental acuity does not exist in a vacuum,” Oz said, adding that the former president’s physical condition supports it.
What to Know About Donald Trump's Health
President Trump’s health has come under renewed scrutiny following a series of recent medical visits to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, where the White House has said he remains in “excellent health” and fully fit to carry out the duties of the presidency. While official memos have highlighted strong cardiac, pulmonary and neurological function, the administration retains broad discretion over what details are released.
The 79-year-old president — who turns 80 this month — has faced persistent questions tied to his age, visible bruising on his hands, and previous reports of leg swelling linked to chronic venous insufficiency, a condition common among older adults.
Although Trump and his allies frequently emphasize favorable test results, including perfect cognitive screening scores, medical experts and political observers have noted that presidential health disclosures are historically selective and shaped by the White House.
Trump to Celebrate His 80th birthday on June 14
Trump is set to turn 80 on June 14, becoming the oldest person to serve as U.S. president, a milestone that has intensified public focus on his health and stamina. The approaching birthday has coincided with repeated medical checkups and renewed claims by Trump that his health is “perfect,” even as critics point to signs of aging and call for greater transparency around his medical records.
