NFL teams have wrapped up their respective organized team activities (OTAs) and minicamps, and after a near month-long break, they’ll pick things back up near the end of July for training camp.

The first preseason game takes place on Thursday, Aug. 6 on NBC when the Carolina Panthers and Arizona Cardinals face off in the Hall of Fame Game. The rest of the preseason’s first week will take place from Aug. 13-15, followed by Week 2 on Aug. 20-23, and Week 3 on Aug. 27-29.

But before the preseason gets underway, teams must first report to training camp. The Cincinnati Bengals are set to report to camp on July 29, and below is their biggest position battle to watch this summer.

Position Battle: Slot CB | Jalen Davis vs. Ja'Sir Taylor

Cincinnati Bengals CB Jalen Davis

Davis is the incumbent starter, which is why most believe he will at least enter camp as the favorite to win the job.

The 30-year-old put up decent — not great — numbers last year. He totaled 20 tackles, a sack, a forced fumble, an interception, and a pass defended while allowing a 72.2 completion percentage against (13 catches on 18 targets) in coverage for 152 yards, though he didn’t give up a touchdown, per Pro Football Focus.

But Taylor has been catching quite a bit of attention during OTAs. He’s taken the bulk of first-team reps in 7on-7s, and reports out of Bengals camp is that Taylor could pass Davis on the depth chart early in camp if things keep up.

The 27-year-old Taylor allowed a 62.5 completion percentage against (five catches one eight targets) for just 34 yards last season, according to PFF. However, three of those five catches went for touchdowns.
