J.T. Poston was able to avoid "golf's longest day" and playing 36 holes to secure a spot in the U.S. Open by winning the the Memorial Tournament, which secured him a spot in the year's third major.
“I sort of told myself in the playoff that this is my U.S. Open qualifier,” Poston said after winning in a playoff over Ryan Gerard. “This is my chance to get in. I want to play in the majors. I want to play in the big events. This is a huge boost of confidence for me and my game and knowing that I can compete in those and play in those. Just thrilled to get it done.”
Not long after winning the Memorial Tournament, Poston withdrew from the RBC Canadian Open and was replaced by Ben Martin.
